Techspert.io is seeking a CFO to join us on our mission to harness the power of AI to transform primary research and the way knowledge is shared.


Having recently secured £8.5m of Series B funding from BGF, Nauta and other early-stage investors and other investors, techspert.io is scaling at a rapid pace. We are building AI that is mapping the world’s expertise, predicting who has what specialist knowledge and using that to match our customers to precisely the right expert insights. With locations in the Cambridge, UK and Houston, US, we've already gained significant traction in the UK, European and US healthcare sectors. We are looking to grow from this strong base and enhance our technology to transform the way primary research is done and the way businesses make key decisions in a wider variety of sectors, on a global basis.


Our CFO will be an intrinsic part of this success. This is a new full-time role (our current CFO is part-time) which will see you leading a finance team that currently consists of a Group Controller and a Finance Manager, both based in the UK.  This role will also see you working initially with the current external accountants and PEO who support us in the US and our company secretarial firm as well as growing the in-house team as we continue our rapid scaling.

Job requirements

  • Leading the growing UK and international finance team
  • Mentoring and supporting the existing team
  • Building out the team as the business grows internationally
  • Supporting appropriate hiring, training and retention processes
  • Finance partner for the founding CEO and COO/CRO
  • Close working relationship with CTO
  • Regular interactions with our Chairman and the other non-exec directors
Key responsibilities
  • Leading all accounting, tax, governance and reporting matters across the group
  • Cashflow management:
    • Runway and forecasting
    • Investment of funds
    • Forex exposure management (as the business grows)
  • Production of monthly management reporting (currently via Xero, DOMO and Fathom
  • Co-ordinating the annual budget process and any intra-year reforecasting
  • Supporting the business in ad-hoc reporting and modelling during the year
  • Full responsibility for the year-end including:
    • Year-end statutory accounts - including group audit (required by investors) with auditors in place
    • Corporation tax (advisors in place)
    • R&D Tax claims (using a specialist third party for support)
  • Share options management and reporting
  • Providing commercial/finance input into discussions around:
    • Resource allocation
    • Tax / legal structuring and tax planning (including items such as transfer pricing)
    • Process automation (esp where this interacts with finance)
    • Systems enhancement (esp regarding financial tools such as accounting systems)
    • BI data visualisation and KPI development
  • Driving funding rounds including:
    • Leading the projections creation
    • Managing due diligence processes
    • Co-ordinating with lawyers on funding documents
    • Managing communications with existing shareholders
    • Supporting any secondary share-sale discussions
    • Providing ad-hoc advice and support to CEO during negotiations with funders
    • Being an active participant in roadshows and presentations to new and existing funders

Experience and qualifications required

  • Coming from a similar services+tech space to Techspert.io
  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience in an accounting/finance position with significant responsibility, ideally in a fast-paced environment
  • Qualified individual preferably with ACA or equivalent background
  • Quantifiable board engagement experience (including writing and presenting reports)
  • Strong and demonstrable fundraising experience
  • Experience of working with growth capital funders
Profile
  • Current FD / CFO but alternatively may currently be a Head of Finance / FD (or group finance second in command) reporting into a very experienced Group CFO
  • Ready to step up to be part of the top leadership team and help us maximise but manage our rapid growth

Background

Necessary experience:

  • Time spent in a growth-stage business
  • International group exposure
  • More likely to have time spent in FP&A than to come from a pure auditing background
  • Experience of Series B (and beyond) fundraising
